Fire Chief's Message

Welcome to the Winterton Fire Department. It is our pleasure to provide this site to better inform our residents of the history and on going events of our department.

The fire department was started in the mid to late 60's by a small group of men who saw the need to protect their town, it was incorporated in 1970.

This year, we are celebrating our 42 years of service with 25 highly professional volunteer fire fighters. The Winterton fire department proudly provides protection within a 25 km stretch of highway (for over 500 residents living in Winterton and Turks Cove including the large RV Park). As well, we assist with mutual aid for New Perlican, Heart's Content, and Hant's Harbour.

We currently operate with a 1991 GMC top kick 500 gallon Pumper Truck and a 2001 Ford Cube Van as a rescue unit. We are working on adding a second cube van to our fleet as an equipment unit.

I would like to take this time as the fire chief to thank all the residents of the Town and surrounding towns for their continued support. Thanks to our town council for the continued help and wonderful relationship with our department as well as a big thank you to our firemen and their wives, mothers and anyone else who help with fund raising and who have spent many nights waiting for their firemen to come home from a fire.

As always, we look forward to protecting our community and neighbouring communities this year and for many years to come.

Hoping to see you soon!

Darrell Reid,
Winterton Fire Chief
